A High Schooler's Guide to BLM Allyship in Vienna, VA
Ahmaud Arbury. Trayvon Martin. Tamir Rice. Breonna Taylor. George Floyd. How do you get people who aren’t directly affected by systematic racism and oppression to be as vocal, as aware, and as active as those who are? In predominantly white towns like Vienna, far too many citizens, especially high schoolers, do not participate in or even understand the meaning of active allyship. We need to do better. Whether you have engaged in several activities in support of BLM or are new to the journey, you will find here the tools to jumpstart your duty to support, educate, and learn.
Education is the first step to allyship. By taking the time to do things such as watching videos, reading books and articles, and listening to podcasts, one can better understand what it truly means to be an active ally.
